Exploring the Mediterranean coast

During our cruise in May, we’ve visited six places at the Mediterranean coast. We’ve started our trip in Barcelona then went to Palma, Marseille, Cinque Terre, Rome, and finally Naples. In this post I’ll tell you about my favorite stops!

Even though we enjoyed every city we visited, I was most excited about Cinque Terre since this was the only place together with Napels where I hadn’t been yet. The weather was gloomy that day but I must say that Cinque Terre did not disappoint. The colourful houses, the nature, the crystal blue water… it feels as if you are walking inside a painting. These five villages are very close to one another, just a few minutes by train. We managed on visiting three of the five villages during one day and after that we decided to go back to the ship as we weren’t dressed for the chilly weather. When the weather allows, you can hike from one of these villages to another, which I think has to be an amazing and beautiful hike! From La Spezia (where the ship was docked) you could also go to Florence or Pisa. If you never been to Florence, it’s also a must do!

It’s been 10 years since I’ve last visited Rome! I went on a school trip through Italy and of course Rome was one of the most important stops. It’s nice that this time I could wander in this historical city with Jeroen instead of school friends and without a strict schedule. We visited the Colosseum and the Trevi fountain and then decided to do some shopping as it’s one of the few cities where there is a Dior store for men. After that we indulged on pizza and gelato, so I would say this was a very succesful day :-)! Of course Rome has a lot more to offer, if it’s your first time visiting, you’ll be blown away by the historical buildings you can find here.

A city that surprised me was Naples. It has a lot of Historical sites to visit and there’s a more authentic and less touristy vibe in this city. From Naples you can also visit Pompeii or Capri. We decided to stroll around and then had lunch at Brandi, the place where they first made the pizza margherita and presented it to the queen!

We’re looking back on a beautiful week! What I loved about this cruise compared with the previous one we did, is that there were many more stops. I love that we had the chance to visit all these cities and different places in just seven days! Cruise Connection can give you advice in which kind of cruise would fit with your expectations, so be sure to reach out to them if you have any questions about cruising.
